Bali is one of the most beautiful places on earth. It's a paradise for travellers who want to experience the best of nature, culture, and adventure. Here are the top 10 amazing things you must do when visiting Bali.

1. Mount Batur

Mount Batur is an active volcano in Bali, Indonesia, surrounded by two ancient calderas and a beautiful lake. It is also one of the most sacred places on the island, with a Hindu temple on its eastern edge.

I booked a guide to take me to the starting point of the hike, which was in the village of Toya Bungkah. The guide gave me a flashlight and some breakfast, and we set off in the dark around 4 am. The trail was not too difficult, but it was steep and rocky in some parts. I could see the lights of other hikers ahead of me, like fireflies in the night.

After about two hours of walking, we reached the summit of Mount Batur, which was 1,717 metres (5,633 feet) above sea level. I was amazed by the view that greeted me. The sky was turning from black to purple to pink, and I could see the silhouettes of Mount Agung and Mount Abang in the distance. The lake below was shimmering like a mirror, reflecting the colours of the dawn.

The guide cooked some eggs and bananas for me using the steam from the volcanic vents. It was a simple but delicious breakfast, and I felt warm and cosy despite the cold wind. I also saw some monkeys roaming around, looking for food and playing with each other. They were cute and curious, but I kept my distance as they could be aggressive.

As the sun rose higher in the sky, I felt a sense of awe and gratitude. I had witnessed one of nature's most spectacular shows, and I felt connected to the earth and its energy. I thanked the guide for bringing me here, and we started our descent. I looked back at Mount Batur one last time, feeling happy and fulfilled.

2. Angel's Billabong

Angel's Billabong is a natural tidal pool on the island of Nusa Penida, a short boat ride away from Bali. It is a stunning sight, with clear turquoise water surrounded by rugged cliffs and rock formations.

The tour guide picked me up early in the morning and drove me to the harbour, where I boarded a speedboat with other travellers. The boat ride was smooth and scenic, and soon we arrived at Nusa Penida.

We got on a minibus that took us to the western coast of the island, where Angel's Billabong was located. The road was bumpy and dusty, but I didn't mind. I was excited to see the natural wonder that awaited me.

We reached the parking lot and walked for a few minutes along a dirt path. I could hear the sound of waves crashing against the rocks, and I felt a breeze on my face. As I turned a corner, I gasped at the sight before me. There it was, Angel's Billabong, sparkling in the sun.

The guide told us that we were lucky to come at low tide, when the tidal pool was calm and clear. He also warned us not to swim in it, as it could be dangerous when the waves came in. He gave us some time to explore and take photos.

I walked closer to the edge of the pool and looked down. The water was so clear that I could see the bottom. It was like looking into a giant aquarium, with colourful fish and coral. I felt like I was in a fairy tale, or maybe a place where angels came to bathe.

I took out my camera and snapped some photos of the pool and the ocean beyond. The contrast between the blue water and the green cliffs was breathtaking. I also took some selfies with the pool as my backdrop. I wanted to capture this moment forever.

3. Pasih Uug Beach

Nusa Penida is an island off the coast of Bali, and one of the stops was Pasih Uug Beach, also known as Broken Beach. I had seen some photos of this place online, and I was curious to see it in person.

We arrived at the parking lot and walked for about 10 minutes along a dirt path. As we got closer, I could hear the sound of the waves crashing against the rocks. I was eager to see what was behind the corner.

When I finally saw it, I was speechless. It was a huge circular cove with a natural archway that connected it to the ocean. The water inside the cove was calm and turquoise, while the water outside was rough and dark blue. The contrast was stunning.

The guide explained that Pasih Uug means "damaged beach" in Balinese, and that the archway was formed by erosion over thousands of years. He also said that this place was sacred to the locals, and that we should respect it.

I walked around the edge of the cove, admiring the view from different angles. The cliffs were high and steep, and I could see some greenery on top of them. The sky was clear and bright, and the sun was shining on the water.

4. Kelingking Beach

We arrived at the parking lot and walked for about 15 minutes along a steep path. As we got closer, I could see the turquoise water and the white sand of the beach below. I was eager to see the famous viewpoint that everyone raved about.

It was a huge cliff that jutted out into the ocean, with a natural archway that connected it to the mainland. The shape of the cliff looked like the head of a T-Rex, with its mouth open and its teeth showing. It was incredible.

The guide explained that Kelingking means "pinky finger" in Indonesian, and that some people thought that the cliff looked like one. He also said that this place was one of the most popular spots on Nusa Penida, and that we could spot manta rays from the top if we were lucky.

I walked to the edge of the cliff and looked down. The view was stunning. The water was so clear that I could see the coral and the fish. The beach was pristine and secluded, with only a few people on it. The sky was blue and bright, and the sun was shining on the water.

5. Crystal Bay

I had heard that this place was great for snorkelling and diving, and I was looking forward to seeing the underwater world.

We arrived at the parking lot and walked for about 5 minutes along a paved road. As we got closer, I could see the turquoise water and the palm trees of the beach. I was eager to see the famous rock formation in the middle of the bay that looked like a small island.

When I finally saw it, I was impressed. It was a huge rock that rose from the water, with a green top and a brown base. It looked like a giant mushroom or a crystal, and it gave the bay its name. It was beautiful.

The guide explained that Crystal Bay was one of the best snorkelling and diving spots on Nusa Penida, and that we could rent equipment from one of the beach stalls. He also said that this place was famous for spotting the mola mola, a huge sunfish that only appeared during certain months.

I decided to try snorkelling, as I had never done it before. I rented a mask, a snorkel, and some fins, and followed the guide to the water. He showed me how to use the equipment and where to go.

I put on my mask and snorkel, and dipped my head into the water. I was amazed by what I saw. The water was so clear that I could see everything. There were colourful fish and coral everywhere, and they seemed to be curious about me. I felt like I was in a different world.

I swam around the bay, exploring different areas. I saw some turtles, some starfish, and some sea urchins. I also saw some divers who were going deeper into the water. I wondered if they saw any mola mola.

I spent about an hour snorkelling, and then I got out of the water. I felt refreshed and happy. I returned my equipment and thanked the guide for his help. I joined the rest of the group on the beach, where we had some snacks and drinks.

I relaxed on a sunbed under a parasol, enjoying the view of the bay and the rock. The sun was setting behind the rock, creating a stunning scene.

6. Lempuyang Temple

Lempuyang temple is one of the most ancient, captivating and sacred temples of Bali. Located on the slope of Mount Lempuyang, this temple complex is one of the oldest and most revered in Bali, and also one of the most photogenic.

As I arrived at the parking area, I was greeted by a stunning view of the Mount Agung volcano, framed by a majestic stone gate. This is the famous Gates of Heaven, where countless Instagrammers have taken their shots with a mirror-like reflection.

I joined the queue to get my picture taken at the gate, but I also wanted to explore more of the temple complex. I learned that there are seven temples in total, each with its own unique features and views.

I decided to hike further up the slope, passing through lush forests and stone steps. Along the way, I met some friendly locals who offered me snacks, drinks and shared with me the stories about the history and significance of the temple, and how it represents the balance and harmony of Bali.

I felt a sense of awe and gratitude as I reached the highest temple, Pura Lempuyang Luhur, where I could see the whole island from above.

7. Tirta Gangga Temple

The culture and history of Bali, especially the water palaces that were built by the former kings of Karangasem is one for the ages. One of them is Tirta Gangga, which means “Sacred Water of the Ganges” in Balinese.

It is a stunning complex of gardens, fountains, pools and statues that reflects the Hindu belief in the sacredness of water. As I entered the palace through the split gate, I felt like I was transported to another world.

The sound of water flowing from the fountains and the sight of colourful fish swimming in the ponds filled me with peace and wonder. I walked on the stone slabs that floated on the water, admiring the intricate carvings of mythical creatures and gods.

I reached the upper level, where I saw a huge fountain shaped like a lotus flower, surrounded by four guardian figures. This is where the holy spring emerges from under a banyan tree, providing water for the palace and the nearby village.

I decided to take a dip in one of the swimming pools that are open to visitors. The water was cool and refreshing, and I felt a connection with nature and spirituality.

I imagined how the royal family used to enjoy this place, and how they rebuilt it after it was destroyed by a volcanic eruption and an earthquake. I was impressed by their resilience and devotion to their heritage.

Tirta Gangga is more than just a tourist attraction. It is a living testimony of Bali’s rich and unique culture, and a place where you can experience the beauty and harmony of water.

It is definitely worth a visit if you want to discover the hidden gems of Bali.

8. Tukad Cepung Waterfall

The beauty and uniqueness of Tukad Cepung Waterfall in Bali is second to none. This hidden gem is tucked away inside a cave, surrounded by lush greenery and rocky cliffs.

The sound of the water cascading down the rocks is soothing and mesmerising. But the most amazing part of this waterfall is the magical sun rays that shine through the opening of the cave, creating a stunning natural light show.

The best time to witness this phenomenon is around midday, when the sun is directly above the waterfall. The rays create a rainbow effect on the misty spray, making it look like a fairy tale scene.

I felt like I was in another world, and I couldn’t stop taking photos of this incredible sight. Tukad Cepung Waterfall is truly one of the most scenic spots in Bali, and a must-visit for anyone who loves nature and adventure.

9. Jungle Swing

One of the most thrilling and memorable experiences I had in Bali was swinging over the lush green jungle at the Jungle Swing Bali. This place is a paradise for adrenaline seekers and nature lovers, as it offers stunning views of the rice paddies, coffee plantation, and river valley.

I felt like I was flying as I soared through the air on one of the 15 swings available, each with different heights and speeds. The staff was very friendly and professional, ensuring my safety and comfort at all times.

They also took amazing photos of me with their cameras, which I could purchase for a reasonable price. After the swing, I explored the other attractions at the Jungle Swing Bali, such as the Bali nests, the heart-shaped rock, and the sky bike.

The Bali nests are cosy and cute, perfect for taking selfies or relaxing with a loved one. The heart-shaped rock is a romantic spot overlooking the valley, where I could express my love to my partner.

The sky bike was another fun and exciting activity, where I pedalled along a suspended track above the jungle. I also enjoyed tasting some of the local coffee and tea varieties at the coffee plantation, which were delicious and refreshing.

10. Tegalalang Rice Fields

Tegalalang Rice Terrace is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that showcases the traditional Balinese irrigation system called Subak.

As I arrived at the site, I was greeted by a stunning view of cascading rice fields that stretched across the valley. The green hues of the rice plants contrasted with the blue sky and the brown earth, creating a mesmerising panorama that took my breath away.

I decided to explore the terraces by walking along the narrow paths that zigzagged through the fields. I felt a sense of awe and admiration for the farmers who cultivated this land for centuries, using their wisdom and harmony with nature.

Along the way, I encountered some friendly locals who offered me a ride on their mountain-edge swings, which gave me a thrilling sensation of flying over the rice fields. I also visited the nearby Bali Pulina plantation, where I learned about the process of making coffee from civet cats and tasted some of their delicious brews.

I ended my day by watching the sunset over the terraces, feeling grateful for this unforgettable experience.
